Honoring YOUR Hometown Heroes at our 2020 Hometown Heroes Event
A BIG thank you to community members who have submitted names of their community heroes to honor during our virtual Hometown Heroes event next Thursday, October 1st, from 5:00 to 6:00PM. Here are some of the names submitted so far of individuals, businesses and organizations in Mountain View and Los Altos who have helped the community during these times of great need.
Community Health and Awareness Council (CHAC), for providing free and low cost mental health support to individuals and families in our service area – especially helpful during these challenging times!
Sarah Donohue and the Cuesta Park Neighborhood Association (nominated three times!), for organizing several large food drives. Says Christine Flego, CSA’s Food & Nutrition Center Director, “They rolled in with 1,700 pounds of food from the first drive and returned a few weeks later with another 1,100 pounds. Now they have taken on the challenge of doing a monthly drive for the increasing number of individuals and families looking to CSA for their nutrition.”
IdaRose Sylvester, for launching Heart2Heart, a program to support Mountain View seniors with handwritten notes and cards and Mountain View Appetite for Good, which supports local restaurants and provides meals to neighbors in need through gift vouchers purchased by community members.
Jean Boulanger and the team at Red Rock Cafe, for being a longtime partner with CSA. Most recently, they have helped CSA promote our Back to School gift card distribution and collected and delivered canned food on a weekly basis. Over the years, they have shared information about CSA programs and services with the community.
High School Volunteers of Computer Engineers of the Next Generation, students from Los Altos, Mountain View and St. Francis High Schools, who are working together to help local children who otherwise would not have access to coding classes. One of their many contributions is an Online Coding Academy on YouTube. These high schoolers are helping to inspire a new generation of future computer engineers while serving as good role models for younger children.
