Congratulations to CSA staff members Janice Bonello and Eonis Cibrian Pelayo, who were recently awarded grants from the Walter & Marian English Awards Fund for professional development in the field of human services. The Fund is administered by The Columbia Foundation.

Janice and Eonis are delighted at this opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills which will ultimately benefit our clients. Janice plans to use these funds to become a Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist (CCSI). “I want to be more effective in helping clients deal with the frustration, disappointment and challenges of moving past homelessness,” says Janice, who has been a CSA case manager for three years.

Eonis, who has been at CSA for four years, first as a case manager and currently as Community Resources Coordinator, is planning to use these funds to apply for and complete the first leadership program specifically designed for Latinas in California. The program is designed to train participants in vital leadership and advocacy skills with the goal of enabling them to create fundamental changes within their local neighborhoods and across California.

“While both Janice and Eonis are already powerful advocates of the clients we serve, these professional development opportunities will strengthen their abilities and reach,” says Tom Myers, CSA Executive Director. “I am so proud and honored to have these two rock stars on the CSA team!”

The Walter & Marian English Awards are made possible by a fund created by the English Family at The Columbus Foundation in Columbus, Ohio. These Awards have been provided in central Ohio since 1976, and were expanded in 2014 to include the Santa Clara area, where members of the English family reside. Applicants must serve in a direct service role to clients.
